The first season, subtitled Trials of the Dream Chasers, is the first installment of DREAMZzz. The first trailer was released on May 2, 2023. A trailer for the second half of Season 1 aired on June 20, 2023 at San Diego Comic Con, and the trailer was released on July 31st on YouTube.

Zoey, Z-Blob, and Albert Team Up: Zoey, Z-Blob, and Albert must team up when the rest of the gang are trapped in their dream landing. Can Zoey put aside her need to work alone and join the group to free her friends?[5]
Beware of the Grimkeepers: When the gang head into the dream world to save Albert and the rest of the dreamers from the Nightmare King, they discover the Grimkeepers trying to capture one of their classmates. The gang bravely decide to follow them, hoping the Grimkeepers will lead them to the other students. But will they be able to free their friends without getting caught?[6]
Detective Izzie Looks for Clues: When Mateo’s comic book goes missing, Izzie decides it’s the perfect time to try out her detective skills and track it down. After rounding up the usual suspects – Mateo, Cooper, Logan, and Zoey – Izzie uncovers a new crime. Will Izzie be able to crack the cases?[7]
Crash-Landing in the Murky Realm: While trying to escape from the Nightmare King, the team crash-land in the Murky Realm. Mr. Oz and Albert reveal that the Murky Realm is where memories die! Will the team find the Sandman before they forget themselves?[8]
The Candy Realm is Under Attack: Wanting to give the Insomniacs the most amazing dream ever, the dream chasers take them to the one place where life is always sweet and yummy – The Candy Realm. After enjoying some tasty treats, the Night Hunter suddenly invades and corrupts the lollipop trees! Will the dream chasers be able to stop the Insomniacs’ delicious dream from turning sour?[9]
Quest for Castle Nocturnia: After activating Lunia’s hourglass, the gang races to Castle Nocturnia which is hidden high in the clouds of the dream world! When they arrive, they find the castle in disrepair – what will they find inside?[10]
Attack on Castle Nocturnia: With the Nightmare King and his forces about to attack, the gang must prepare to defend Castle Nocturnia from total destruction. Will the dream chasers manage to repel the assault?[11]
Nightmare in the Waking Word: With the Fall Festival in full swing, the gang search for the Night Terror. They must use all their skills to come up with a plan to trap the Nightmare King if they want to save the day![12]
Nightmares in Brooklyn: The Nightmare King opens the rift to the Waking World and his forces invade the Fall Festival! Cooper and Logan must find a way to repel the attacking Grimspawn and Night Terrors. They spot the massive lights on the mainstage and attempt to use them to defeat the swarms.[13]

- Mateo was a major focus character this season.
- In Episode 1, he and Izzie discover the Dream World is real, and his character Z-Blob comes to life. Mateo's lack of friends and fraught relationship with Cooper is shown, as well as his affinity for drawing.
Antagonists[]
- The Nightmare King serves as the main antagonist for the season.
- In Episode 10, he learns that Z-Blob can crossover to the Waking World which drives him to the goal to conquering the Waking World.
- In Episode 16, he finds out the Dream chasers were at Castle Nocturnia causing the following events in Episode 17 where he destroys the castle.
- In Episode 19, he successfully bridges the Waking World to the Dream World by tricking Mateo into splitting Z-Blob and getting Mateo to wake up.
- In Episode 20, he attacks the Waking World until he was driven back to the Dream World after a trick by Izzie, he was ultimately defeated by the Dream Chasers after they chose Z-Blob as the new guardian of the Grim Realm trapping him inside.
- The Night Hunter serves as the secondary antagonist for the season.
- Other important antagonists include Susan, Snivel, Sneak, and the Never Witch (Episode 14).

- The last 10 episodes of Season 1, that were intended to be released in August along with the sets, were accidentally released on PlutoTv in June.
