Filipo Achaemenid Darius Cambysis, otherwise known as Phil, is the guardian of Castle Nocturnia and a manticore.
History[]
Trials of the Dream Chasers[]
The Worthy Dreamer[]
Phil comes across the Dream Chasers when they arrive at Castle Nocturnia on their search for Lunia. When they arrive, Phil ambushes them before providing them with a trial, where the last dreamer standing will be tested. He manages to incapacitate most of them, except for Zoey, to which he puts her through the test. Seeing her as lonesome and rebellious, Phil offered to have her parents revived, but she declines, having got people that truly care for her. Satisfied, Phil unfreezes the Dream Chasers and the Dreamling Mushrooms he had frozen over a dispute on who would do the dishes. He then told them that Lunia has not been in the castle for years before proceeding to hand Lunia's Hourglass to Zoey, which she uses to return the color to the castle.
The Light of Nocturnia[]
Night Hunted[]
At the Dream Chasers' Landing, while waiting for Albert to repair the window, and Mateo, Izzie, and Zoey rescue some dream creatures, Phil explains how he became the current guardian of Castle Nocturnia before being chastised by Albert for distracting him. He later watched as the Dream Chasers attempt to recreate the window's story, only for Mateo to run out of Dream Sand and takes off to find the other Dream Chaser that was with Lunia when she defeated the Nightmare King. Phil and the Dream Chasers manage to reach Mateo in the Grim Realm and take on Night Terrors sent to bring the Night Hunter back with Mateo returning to the Waking World after a Night Terror ambushed and forced Izzie to wake up to cross over before they all flee back to the Landing.
The Rift[]
Enter the Nightmare[]
During Izzie plan of trying to get the Nightmare King back through the rift and into the Grim Realm, Izzie quickly noticed that the rift was about to be big enough for the Nightmare Galleon to cross, Phil stated that they had to prevent that from happening, with Izzie agreeing. Later, with the Nightmare Galleon dissolved, Izzie managed to conclude her plan and successfully lured the Nightmare King back into the Dream World. Soon after, when the Nightmare King conjured all of the imaginations of the people trapped in the Fear Works, Phil and Zian attempted to attack the Nightmare King, only to be easily defeated.

Phil approached Royce to discuss how the Melbourne Bureau required his assistance, mentioning nightmares about break-dancing kangaroos.

A Tale of Two Teos[]
Phil arrived just as Royce announced the final phase of the R.E.M. trials, where the last three Dream Chasers would compete to decide who would lead the task force. However, before the competition can begin, Izzie stepped in to caution Phil and Royce about MadTeo and the Never Witch. Phil reassured Izzie that he would know if the Never Witch were nearby, given his title as a Realm Guardian. The competition at Castle Nocturnia kiceds off, but Takashi and Astrid were eliminated by MadTeo. Phil then declared MadTeo the winner of the trials. Just as Phil was about to award MadTeo with a medal, Mateo, Zoey, Z-Blob, and Zian arrived. MadTeo transformed his spear into the Never Witch's staff and stabbed Phil in the heart to incapacitate him. Phil was then drawn into a doom-dome created by MadTeo. Using Zoey's pocket watch, the Night Hunter attempted to manipulate time to reverse the situation, but the watch began to break down under the strain of excessive time reversal. During this process, Phil was pulled out of the dome, leading the Brooklyn Bureau to realize he was still alive while they made their escape. However, before they can act, the pocket watch finally failed, pulling Phil back into the dome along with the rest of Castle Nocturnia.
Never Forever[]
Abilities[]
- Flight - Because he has wings, Phil possesses the ability to fly, and a lot of the time this power is used to transport people.
- Crystal manipulation - Phil is seen being able to shoot beams of energy from the tip of his tail that can turn Dreamers and Dream creatures into crystal statues, and he has the power to turn them back. He was seen hitting Grimspawn with these energy beams once, but nothing happened, so it might not affect Nightmare creatures.
- Resurrection (possibly) - Phil told Zoey he could bring her mother back if she wished, although it is unknown if he was telling the truth, or bluffing to test her.

- Contrary to being called a manticore, Phil is actually a winged lion, as manticores in mythology are normally depicted as having the body of a lion, the head of a man and the tail of a scorpion.
