The witch afraid of change who makes it everyone's problem[]
Season 2 supervillain the Never Witch has all kinds of powers that she uses for evil, like stealing kids’ memories in a desperate attempt to stop things from ever changing. There’s a big lesson there.
History[]
Background[]
Once an acquaintance to the Nightmare Army, the Never Witch had her powers misunderstood by the Nightmare King.[2] At one point, the Never Witch attempted to wrest the Crown of Control from the Nightmare King, who warned that its possession could spell disaster for the Dream World. In contrast, the Never Witch argued that victory necessitates a corresponding defeat. This disagreement escalated into a confrontation between the two. For a brief moment, the Never Witch succeeded in snatching the Crown of Control from the Nightmare King's hands. However, when the Nightmare King demanded its return, she refused to comply. In retaliation, the Nightmare King swung his sword at the crown, releasing a blinding flash of light that impaired the Never Witch's eyesight.[3] After the Never Witch's defeat, the Nightmare King decided to imprison her in the Murky Realm, hoping that she would eventually be forgotten.[4] Consequently, she was left trapped in the realm for numerous years. In her solitude, the Never Witch began collecting the forgotten memories of dreamers who ventured into the Murky Realm, ensnaring them.[2]
Trials of the Dream Chasers[]
Songs of the Mist[]
Mateo and Zoey found themselves confronted by the Never Witch after managing to evade the sirens. Recognizing their vulnerability, the Never Witch pleaded with them to join her before the sirens returned. Despite her plea, Mateo firmly objected to the proposition. The Never Witch conceded to his wishes, but not without a warning. She cautioned them that if they chose to ignore their past, they would bear the consequences alone. Feeling compelled, Zoey decided to follow the Never Witch, prompting Mateo to go after her. The Never Witch was delighted when Mateo stumbled upon her, having lost his way. She confessed that her solitary life had made her yearn for companionship, especially since her apparent blindness limited her interactions with others. Despite this, the Never Witch revealed that she possessed unique abilities that allowed her to perceive things in her own way. The Never Witch bestowed upon Mateo one of Zoey's memories, specifically the melody of her mother's song. The Never Witch explained that she collected the abandoned dreams that end up at the Murky Realm. In a display, the Never Witch then unveiled one of Mateo's own memories - the memory of his birthday, where he received his very first art set and crafted a drawing of Z-Blob for the very first time. It was revealed that the Never Witch's purpose in gathering these memories is to ensure they are never forgotten. By preserving them, she can infuse them with a sense of wistfulness, allowing the owners of these memories to revisit them whenever they desire. The Never Witch emphasized that there is a profound reason behind her actions.
The Never Witch then encounter Izzie, who was reliving the memory of her getting Mr. Sharkyjaw. The Never Witch spoke in Mateo and Izzie's mother's voice, asking her if she liked her present. The Never Witch reassured Izzie that she could come back to this moment anytime she wanted, promising to always be there for her. Izzie caught the Never Witch in the act and escaped. The Never Witch once again spoke in Mateo and Izzie's mother, assuring him that he could visit this place every night and freely sketch whatever his heart desired, exclusively for him. Nevertheless, Mateo, motivated by his mother's advice to share his creations, declined the offer. He conveyed his eagerness to leave, underscoring the significance of finding his friends. Contrarily, the Never Witch insinuated that Mateo and his friends would be ensnared and incapable of fleeing. At that moment, the Night Hunter arrived. The Never Witch disapproved the Night Hunter's presence. In return, the Night Hunter confronted the Never Witch, questioning who had the power to make him leave. The Never Witch noted that things had changed since their last meeting. Unfazed, the Night Hunter pointed out that the Never Witch's sight had remained the same. The Night Hunter was ambushed by one of Never Witch's ravens and a Grimwolf. The Never Witch pointed out that both the Night Hunter and the Nightmare King have consistently underestimated her. However, the moment had arrived for them to behold the truth, as she stated that it was a serious mistake on their behalf to forsake her in the Murky Realm. Nonetheless, Mateo managed to escape from the Never Witch and successfully recovered Zoey's memory. The Never Witch warned Mateo that his actions would not be forgotten, emphasizing that he would eventually remember and feel remorse for what he had done.
The Night Hunter escaped from the Never Witch by crossing the barrier that confined her. The Night Hunter taunted the Never Witch before he left. However, the Never Witch was unfazed and suggested that much had changed. Momentarily, she destroyed the barrier meant to keep her trapped.
Night of the Never Witch[]
Sheep Freak[]
With several of her ravens arriving from stealing memories, the Never Witch gazed at them stating how delightful the memories are while looking at them. Shortly after, the Never Witch announced to her ravens that they had work to do and soon after a red cloud surrounds her, the cauldron of nightmares, and the memory dreams.
Memory Chasers[]
At the Shadowkeep, the Never Witch met with the Night Hunter again stating that retirement doesn't suit him. With the Night Hunter arguing that she was supposed to be imprisoned in the Murky Realm, the Never Witch stated that it was true that the Nightmare King wanted to forget about her but told the Night Hunter that removing her memory won't be easy. After the Night Hunter picked up his crossbow and asked if he wanted a fight, the Never Witch soon told the Night Hunter she wasn't here to fight but she was really here to find out more about the Dream Chasers. Using her staff, the Never Witch goes through the Night Hunter's memories questioning the Night Hunter on the reason she needed to fight as she could easily take away his memories on how to fight or about the Dream World. Soon after, the Never Witch finds a memory that interested her wanting to take it for herself but ultimately decided not to as it could be a benefit to her later on. After knocking out the Night Hunter, the Never Witch travels back to her domain.
In her domain, the Never Witch stated that she almost have all the memories and ingredients on eliminating dreamers and dreaming from existence. After Zoey finding Logan's memory, the Never Witch catches her in the act sending ravens and a Grimwolf after her. With Zoey jumping trying to escape, the Never Witch sends her right back to her domain explaining to Zoey that she has the power to manipulating her domain telling her she won't be able to escape. Still, Zoey uses her pocket watch to escape the Never Witch causing her to get frustrated going after her with ravens a Grimwolf. Despite chasing her, the Never Witch couldn't catch her due to Zoey escaping to the Dream Chasers' landing.
At the Sandman's Tower, the Never Witch blamed the Sandman for the reason that the Dream Chasers coming after her sending a cloud with her staff which the Sandman's easily blocked. The Never Witch soon told the Sandman that they'll have to either do things the easier way or the hard way. Shortly after, the Never Witch sends her ravens after the Sandman but failed to catch him and as a last resort the Never Witch sends a Grimwolf after the Sandman effortlessly defeating him. The Sandman asked the Never Witch what she wanted from him with the Never Witch stating she wanted everything.
Sick Beats[]
The Never Witch becomes annoyed by Logan's loud music before noticing her Grimwolf and one of her ravens dancing. Despite trying to get them to stop, she ends up dancing herself, to her embarrassment.
Witchy Ways[]
In her domain, the Never Witch stirs the cauldron of nightmares. With a Grimwolf approaching her, the Never Witch told it to be patient as they will soon have enough ingredients to remove dreamers from existence due to their dream crafting and creativity creating new things in the Dream World making it more cluttered. Shortly after, the Never Witch sends her ravens ordering them to take fearful and painful memories to help her cleanse the Dream World.
Later she travels to the Candy Realm and soon after detected Zoey's and the Brooklyn Bureau's presence soon after welcoming Zoey's return stating if she forgot anything. The Never Witch, using the cauldron of nightmares, stated that she knows of Zoey's presence and acknowledged that she also brought her friends to her stating she needs an ingredient to deal with them. Shortly after, one of her ravens gave her a fearful memory, with the Never Witch being pleased and soon dropped the memory into the cauldron of nightmares stirring it around a few times. After she stopped stirring it around, the Never Witch waits in anticipation questioning what the dreamer was afraid of and soon after seeing the dreamer's fear, the Never Witch was delighted and shortly after a spider comes out of the cauldron.
After the spider managed to trap Zian using web silk, Zoey rushes to free him only for the Never Witch to interrupt stating she was waiting for Zoey to come back to her hitting Zoey with a cloud using her staff showing Zoey her most painful memories. The Never Witch soon questioned Zoey how she was going to fight while reliving her most painful memories. While torturing Zoey, the Never Witch soon watched as her spider was defeated by the combined efforts of Izzie and Logan. The Never Witch soon grew frustrated and with Mateo questioning why she needed their memories, the Never Witch stated that soon the entire Dream World will see what she wants. While gathering energy with her staff, the Never Witch looks at Mateo stating she's looking forward to deal with all of them soon banging her staff on the ground releasing a shockwave giving the Never Witch and her forces to escape.
Beat the Clock[]
Using the cauldron of nightmares, the Never Witch arrives at the Shadowkeep. With the Night Hunter pointing his crossbow at her the Never Witch ordered the Night Hunter to lower his weapon knocking it out of his hand using her staff. As the Night Hunter questioned when he ever took orders from her, the Never Witch told the Night Hunter he's going to have to do everything she tells him to. With the Night Hunter refusing and questioning the Never Witch the profound reason for him of obeying the Never Witch, she told the Night Hunter she'll share his true identity to his daughter, Zoey. The Night Hunter soon begged the Never Witch not to and asked what she wanted with the Never Witch telling him she wanted Mateo.
Wake That Dreamer[]
With the Night Hunter arriving with Mateo, the Never Witch stated her impatience. As the Night Hunter let go of Mateo, Mateo starts running away only for the Never Witch to fire a cloud using her staff causing branches to spring out of the ground trapping Mateo. The Never Witch soon stated that Mateo is exactly what she needed to storm into the Night Hunter's old grounds and take out its guardian. Mateo soon questioned the Never Witch what she wanted from Z-Blob but the Never Witch silenced him firing another cloud at him. With the Night Hunter leaving, the Never Witch stated to Mateo the fun they are going to have. While preparing to make a clone of Mateo, the Never Witch struggles to find a memory of New Year's resolution but soon after finding it pouring it into the cauldron of nightmares. Soon after, the Never Witch took Mateo's worst tendencies using it to fuel her spell. While mixing the ingredients together, the Never Witch soon catches Mateo trying to escape sending a Grimwolf after Mateo only for it to get defeated. The Never Witch decided to catch Mateo herself but ultimately couldn't as Mateo escaped to Wildoria.
Soon after, the Never Witch traveled to Pillows Peak warning Beau to make sure that Mateo doesn't escape or else she'll show his true identity to her daughter, Zoey. As Zoey approached Beau, the Never Witch left going back to her domain before Zoey spots her.
Back in her domain, the Never Witch finishes the spell and creates MadTeo. The Never Witch explains to MadTeo that she can't get past the Night Bureau's defenses but told MadTeo that he could go to Castle Nocturnia and infiltrate the Dream Chasers carrying out her orders. Shortly after, the Never Witch explains her plans to MadTeo.
After MadTeo succeeded into getting to the final trial of the R.E.M's, MadTeo contacts the Never Witch using her staff. The Never Witch stated he had done well telling him it's time to put her plan into action. The Never Witch ordered MadTeo to pierce the guardian of Castle Nocturnia, Phil and they'll succeed on ripping the Dream World of all Dream Chasers.
A Tale of Two Teos[]
After MadTeo managed to pierce the heart of Phil, the Never Witch soon after sends ravens after the members of the Night Bureau. Just as Astrid questioning if they should wake up, the Never Witch stated that if they were to wake they would still be trapped in the doom-dome forever preserved. After Zoey states that she has to try to save her friends, the Never Witch appears stating that she'll won't be able to save anyone. With Mr. Oz going into the doom-dome, the Never Witch picks up her staff stating that the walls of Castle Nocturnia will return when darkness falls so that everything will stay pristine. When Zoey uses her pocket watch to reverse time, Mateo states that they can still stop her with the Never Witch stating that they won't be able to stop her doom-doming Castle Nocturnia telling them that their "time tricks" doesn't work on her sending ravens after Mateo and Zoey before getting defeated with the help of Beau. While turning back time, the Never Witch ultimately managed to doom-dome Mr. Oz and after the watch broke, the Never Witch managed to doom-dome Beau and Zian but failed to doom-dome the young Brooklyn Bureau members and Astrid.
Adventures in Robot-Sitting[]
The Never Witch shakes the doom-dome of Castle Nocturnia laughing and questioning how they'll like being trapped for an eternity. She soon pulls out a memory dream and pours it into the cauldron of nightmares and soon changes her appearance. MadTeo soon questioned the Never Witch thinking that she didn't like change, the Never Witch confirmed she hated change but sometimes there is an exception to dress for the occasion. Soon after, she declared that they'll doom-dome the Cyber Realm.
The Never Witch soon made her attack piercing the heart of Burrzerker and effectively doom-doming the Cyber Realm.

Behind the scenes[]
- With her first appearance in the episode Songs of the Mist, the Never Witch was mistakenly credited as "Witch" in the credits.
- This was later fixed during Season 2.
- Shown with the concept arts, the Never Witch was seen intended to have a complete different appearance and possibly be a member of the Nightmare Army.
- Her eye sizes are different depending on the animation studio with Pure Imagination Studios giving her bigger eyes compared to WildBrain.
Trivia[]
- The Never Witch uses the leg piece instead of a dress in the sets. However, in the majority of the sets she's in, she is depicted with the pedestal ghost piece, which accurately represents her mist powers and ability to float as seen in the show.
- She is also the second character with this design choice, the first being the Sandman.
- Before "Grim Vengeance," Tommy Andreasen suggested that the Never Witch's blindness was a result of her imprisonment in the Murky Realm.[5]
- The Never Witch hairpiece is different than the one in the show. When asked about this, Tommy Andreasen stated that the main reason was because of convenience of animation/intersection.[6]
- The Never Witch is the first main antagonist to appear in two different wave of sets (January 2024 and August 2024).
