Dream Chasers is the second episode of the first season of DREAMZzz.
Synopsis[]
After a daring mission to save their friend in the Dream World, Mateo and Izzie realize the nightmare has followed them back to the Waking World.
Netflix: It wasn't just a dream! Mateo, Izzie and Z-Blob return to rescue Cooper, meet an unexpected ally and learn about their strange new abilities.
Extended: In defiance of the evil Night Hunter and his grimspawn, Mateo and Izzie free Cooper only to need a rescue of their own. Luckily, their science teacher, Mr. Oz, is actually a secret agent of the Night Bureau. In the heat of battle, Mateo wakes up and brings a night terror back with him to Brooklyn, which he and his friends must defeat without their Dream World powers.[1]
Plot[]
The Dream Bandit and Zian ambush the Night Hunter and Grimspawn in an attempt to rescue Cooper, only to end up outnumbered and are forced to retreat.
In the Waking World, Mateo and Izzie are in their bedroom, planning their own rescue mission before falling asleep and end up in the Dream World. Heading for the door to the forest, Mateo and Izzie, along with Z-Blob, end up walking into an ambush by the Night Hunter on his ship and were forced to run towards the closest village, where its mushroom civilians quickly scramble for shelter. As they try to search for Cooper, they come across the Grimkeeper holding him captive before the Night Hunter demands something from them and to use their imaginations. Half-complying, Mateo gets out his pencil, as well as some pages of his comic, amusing the Night Hunter before his pencil suddenly started to grow bigger, and he and Izzie start to fight them, until a Grimspawn started to drag Izzie away, the sight of her makes Mateo grows his pencil bigger and lose his grip on it while Izzie is saved by a mushroom civilian, whom threw a rock at it. Izzie then got out Mr. Sharkyjaw and, told by Mateo not to overthink, makes it grow and come alive, biting Sneak and tossing him about, surprising the Night Hunter at the sight of the siblings being Dream Crafters. As the Grimkeeper prepares to grab him, Mateo sees the page of which Z-Blob has a robot suit, Mateo creates it, and Z-Blob started to fight the Grimkeeper while he tries to free Cooper from it. The Grimkeeper ends up leaning, giving Cooper the opportunity to escape, but is unable to reach the ground and held onto the cage door, until the Night Hunter inadvertently hits it with his crossbow, sending Cooper crashing into Z-Blob, turning him back to normal. As Night Hunter and the Grimspawn retreat, the Grimkeeper removes the arrow before grabbing Mr. Sharkyjaw and threw him to the Night Hunter as he turned back to normal. Taking him, Night Hunter combines him with his ship, making it a ship with a shark figurehead, devastating Izzie as she, Mateo and Cooper attempt to escape him. As they ran, Cooper explains how he was having a nice dream when the Night Hunter grabbed him, even mentioning there were other kids, until they came across an edge of the island. As the Night Hunter and the Grimspawn surround them, a flying bus comes up behind them and, to their surprise, Mr. Oz was by the open door before crafting a cannon to shoot at the Grimspawn while giving Mateo, Izzie, and Cooper the opportunity to get on, but gets struck by one of the Night Hunter's arrows as the bus flies away and the Night Hunter's ship drives over the edge, immediately turning into a flying ship and pursues the bus. While inside the bus, Mr. Oz, whose shoulder was turning black, tells Mateo to grab the Desublimator and spray it on him to clear the infection. While getting acquainted with the pilot, Mr. Oz explains he is a Dream Chaser, an agent of the Night Bureau just as the Nightmare King arrives on his chariot before they attempt to make their escape, only for a Night Terror to break in, making them scream and instantly wake up in the Waking World.
Quickly recovering, they see the real Mr. Sharkyjaw is all ripped up before Mateo tries calling out to Cooper, only to be shushed by Izzie. Complying, Mateo instead gives him a phone call before spotting him peeking out the window and messages for them to come outside, unaware that the Night Terror that scared them into waking up was following them. As they ponder on the events, Mateo and Izzie show Z-Blob to Cooper, surprising him before thanking them and apologizes to Mateo for their estranged friendship. As they discuss the Nightmare King's motives, Logan, whom Cooper messaged beforehand, shows up and explains his disbelief about their conversation, until he sees the Night Terror, which grabs Mateo by his backpack and flies him across Brooklyn, until they land in an alleyway, where Mateo discovers light is its weakness. Izzie, Cooper, and Logan manage to catch up just as the Night Terror was about to come at Mateo's backpack, but he grabs it by its wing and tells them its weakness. Logan soon strikes a nearby power box, jumping the light in the alleyway and disintegrating the Night Terror. As Logan demands an answer, Mr. Oz shows up and explains how the Night Bureau defeated him with, what he believes was with Lunia's hourglass that Mateo found the day before. Before any more could be explained, Mateo's arm started to become infected due to touching the Night Terror, and Mr. Oz tells him to come with him and for the others to go home, but they refuse and help Mateo into Mr. Oz's car, where he drives to the old observatory while they try to keep Mateo from falling asleep due to the infection.
Using the Edison Ray, Mateo's infection is cleared and Mr. Oz shows him the observatory serves as the Night Bureau's headquarters. He then goes on to explain how Mateo and Izzie have abilities few people possess, and that he and his friends can do incredible things. As Mateo laments not having any, Mr. Oz, explaining the quality and not quantity of friends, points out to Izzie, Cooper, and Logan, who stayed with him, alongside Z-Blob. As Mr. Oz tells Mateo he has to become a Dream Chaser, Cooper hands him his Sheep Week form, showing his name, along with Izzie and Logan's below Mateo's, stating they'll become Dream Chasers as well as being teammates for Sheep Week as Mr. Oz tells them their training will start tomorrow.

- This episode's name is a direct antithesis to the next episode called "Chased Dreamers".
- When Mateo, Izzie, Cooper and Logan are in the alley with the Night Terror, a garage door had the Ninjago symbols for ice, earth, lightning, and fire.

- During certain parts near the end of the episode, Mateo's bandage repeatedly appears and disappears.
