Beat the Clock is the eighth episode of the second season of DREAMZzz and the twenty-eighth overall.
Synopsis[]
Struggling to rebuild a relationship with her estranged dad, Zoey is off her game as the team gears up for the second R.E.M. trial - Beat the Clock![1]
Extended: Rebuilding a relationship with her estranged dad turns out to be harder than it sounds for Zoey once Izzie convinces her to give him a chance. Logan steps up his training to beat Astrid in the second R.E.M. trial which involves capturing a speedy little alarm clock that looks sweet but has a major bite!
Plot[]
Zoey, despite some complications, rescues a baby dream deer from some Grimwolves in the Cyber Realm and returns it to the Fantasy Realm, where she tells Izzie about her father showing up out of the blue and wants to spend time with her during the weekend before Izzie insists that Zoey should spend time with him.
At Francis B. Wooley Middle School, Mateo and Cooper discover Logan has started reading guidance books, to which they assume is because of Astrid so that he could best her in the next trial.
At Castle Nocturnia, Mr. Oz explains that the next round involves catching an alarm clock and hit the snooze button within 90 seconds. When Mr. Oz pressed it, he inadvertently started a 30 second countdown and, despite everyone's warning, ends up being forced to return to the Waking World. Albert then continues on, having Logan chase it while the others try to prevent him with their Dream Crafting. Astrid soon arrived to tease Logan about lacking the Dream Crafting ability before becoming impressed by him quoting Art of War. Izzie then noticed Zoey chose not to practise before insisting the latter should spend time with her father, explaining to her how the former's mother doesn't call and her father is in a new releationship. While Mateo and the others continue more practice, Logan quotes Lewis Carroll, impressing Astrid again before they resume, and Zoey reluctantly complies with Izzie's insistence.
In the Waking World, Jenny expresses her concern for Zoey spending time with the latter's father before Beau shows up. Their time together was complicated with them being splattered by mud, Beau refusing to try a burrito, trying to show off a magic trick, having some photos taken, but the guy who took them simply moved Beau's phone too quickly, rendering them blurred, and he ends up almost choking on a licorice.
At Castle Nocturnia, the Brooklyn Bureau Dream Chasers watch Royce looking over Astrid's practice before he tries to throw objects he Dream Crafts to distract her, but she counters them with her own before Logan began to express his concerns as he and Zoey do not have an hourglass. Izzie then expresses how Zoey will be disqualified if the latter doesn't show up.
In the Grim Realm, Beau, in his Night Hunter state, demands Snivel and Susan to take down a target resembling his daughter, which they were using as practise for his crossbow, revealing his relationship with her before confessing everything he did against her was to prevent the Nightmare King knowing about it and use it against him. While expressing his failed reconciliation, Susan tells the Night Hunter that Zoey hasn't seen him as the Night Hunter before leaving again.
Beau finds Zoey in the Candy Realm, remembering how he once calmed her with licorice despite Hannah objecting, hoping to apologise for their horrible time together before Zoey invites him to ride Zian and explains how she is participating in the R.E.M. trials, worrying Beau as he betrayed Mr. Oz before claiming he won't make it, which Zoey sympathetically accepts.
The following evening, Royce explains to the remaining agents that only seven will pass the alarm clock challenge while Beau, disguised as a Dreamling mushroom arrived in the stands, unbeknownst to Zoey before Royce begins the trial.
The trial moves along with a recently repaired window being broken, to Celia Strick's annoyance, an entire branch eliminated, mass competitors' interference, Mateo, having Dream Crafted a blob based Bedbug, managed to get the first tap. After Izzie, Takashi of Tokyo Bureau, and another agent tapped the alarm clock themselves, Zian ends up crashing into the stands, frustrating Zoey, until Beau reveals himself, motivating her to carry on, almost being caught by Mr. Oz in the process. Zoey soon used her pocket watch to slow down time to tap the alarm clock herself before Beau retreats so that Mr. Oz doesn't recognize him. After an agent tapped the alarm clock, Logan and Astrid end up competing to get the last spot with Logan seizing Astrid's jet pack, only to be tossed through a window when she Dream Crafted a remote, encaged it in the arena and tapped it. With the trial over, Astrid meets up with Logan, impressed by his actions during the trial before they begin talking about The Book of Five Rings, which was what inspired her to take down Logan. Unfortunately, as Zoey used her pocket watch, Royce disqualifies her, despite the others' protests, but Zoey doesn't object to the disqualification.
Back in the Grim Realm, the Never Witch approaches, threatening to show Zoey the memory of him as the Night Hunter, unless he brings her Mateo.
