(The episode begins in the Dream World, where a flying book heads for the Candy Realm, where it passes by many kids doing random activities, two were on top of some big lollipops, two were tossing a soccer ball back and forth, three girls were sitting together, laughing a little, and Dallas starts to chase after it. Behind him, Mr. Hopper croaks as he hops past, moving in front of Mateo, who holds a hot dog before a Masked Man drops down in front of Izzie, who was holding a pickle, and she falls down. The Masked Hero starts to run, nudging Mateo aside, dropping his hot dog in the process, as Grimspawn show up and pursue him)

Grimspawn 1: (chasing the Masked Man) Come on, come on, come on!

Grimspawn 2: Got you now!

(The Masked Hero grunts in anger and exhaustion as he carried an hourglass in his hands as he comes across more kids, who quickly ran away, screaming from the sight of the Grimspawn, except for Cooper and two other kids, who were on the side. The Masked Hero kept running, until he came to a sudden halt when Sneak shows up in front of him, accompanied by Snivel and Susan as the two kids run away as well. Mateo watches from a nearby house as the Masked Hero held the hourglass out)

Sneak: He's using the hourglass! (He moves to charge at the Masked Hero, who used the hourglass to craft a sword. The Masked Hero moves to attack Sneak, who jumps before he kicks Snivel and Susan, turning back around to use the sword to block Sneak's claws as he stands on his rear legs before moving to the side and swung the sword to throw Sneak between Snivel and Susan) Whoa!

(The Masked Hero swiftly spins while moving back to avoid a charging Grimspawn before charging at it and stabs it. It helplessly scream as it disintegrates into purple dust. Two more charge at him from behind before he turn to strike them both)

Masked Hero: (grunts in anger and points the sword at Sneak, Snivel, and Susan) Back, Grimspawn! You have no place in the Dream World!

Susan: Um, yeah we do. These dreamers and their imaginations (She takes flight) belong to the Nightmare King now! (She laughs before charging at the Masked Hero, who tries to strike, only for Susan to swiftly pass by him)

(Snivel charges at the Masked Hero, only for him to somersault over Snivel, who hits a large stone and slides to the ground as the Masked Hero turned to strike him, only for the sword to disintegrate into sand, shocking them both)

Snivel: That's the worst Dream Crafting I’ve ever seen. (He raises both legs to kick the Masked Hero back)

Masked Hero: (stumbles as he moved back before stopping) There are still dreamers out there who have the creativity. (He uses the hourglass to craft a shield before some Grimspawn start to surround him only for him to push them back, the shield disintegrating in the process) I can feel it!

Night Hunter: (walking towards the Masked Hero) And their creativity will power nightmares, (raises his crossbow as the Masked Hero started to craft something again) not your silly hourglass.

Masked Hero: (The crafted item becomes a lollipop, which he holds out to the Night Hunter) You'll never conquer the Dream World!

Snivel: (eyes the lollipop) Ooh, cherry! (sarcastically while turning away) I'm so scared. (He starts to chuckle)

Night Hunter: (scoffs) Who's gonna stop us? You? (Night Hunter fires his crossbow, the arrow hitting the lollipop, breaking it into pieces and disintegrating into sand. The Grimspawn laugh as they start to head for the Masked Hero) Hand over Lunia's hourglass! There's nowhere to run!

Masked Hero: Who said anything about running? (He raises the hourglass as sand started to move around it, creating a blue light)

(Cooper, who was also watching the fight, turns away and covers his eyes from the bright light. Night Hunter fires an arrow at the Masked Hero, just as the light fades and he quickly disintegrates into sand)

Snivel: (turns to Sneak as he and Susan arrive at the spot) You let him get away!

Sneak: You let him get away! (He presses his front paws on Snivel)

Snivel: (nudges him back) Nah, ah! You did!

Sneak: No, you did!

Snivel: Every single time!

Night Hunter: (approaches them all) Wherever that hourglass is, we must find it. This Dream Realm will fall! Same as the others! The Nightmare King will rule!

(A Grimspawn moves towards the screen. Title plays)

(In the Waking World at night, a street light flickering and sounds of crickets chirping were the only sounds present. In Mateo and Izzie's room, Izzie was sleeping peacefully while Mateo was snoring before turning on his right side, a pencil on his pillow rolling off and landing on the floor. The Masked Hero's eyes soon came into view underneath Mateo's bed before he crawls out and looks down at him, only to see the arrow that struck him was glowing, shocking him. Quickly moving his bedsheet back over Mateo, the Masked Hero gets out Lunia's hourglass before flinching in pain from the arrow as he looks at it. He then sees black lines appearing on his right arm, heading for the hourglass before he quickly tossed it into his other hand. The infected arm tries to reach for it, only for the Masked Hero to move it back before it tries to grab the hourglass again and ends up hitting his elbow, knocking the hourglass out the open window, shocking him before he dives out. The hourglass falls from the window as the Masked Hero followed suit, managing to grab it before bouncing off an awning and lands in a dumpster before rolling off it and onto the ground. The Masked Hero gets back up, the blackness slowly starting to cover him as he moved along, knocking over a trash can, spilling out the contents as he was now completely engulfed in black and cackles as he looked at the hourglass. He soon explodes into black dust before turning into a Night Terror. The Night Terror laughs as he looks at the hourglass, only to see sizzling on his arms before shrieking when he saw he was under a street light and tries to get out of it, tossing the hourglass in the process before tripping and disintegrates completely. The hourglass flies across the air before landing in the ground, immediately glowing and sparking before letting off an EMP-styled shockwave, which spreads throughout the street, car alarms going off. In his room, Mateo yelps before sitting up, breathing heavily as he turned to Izzie before getting out of bed and heads over to her, moving one of Izzie's plushies aside before shaking her)

Izzie: (talking in her sleep) Come back inside and we'll eat some pickles.

Mateo: (shakes her again) Izzie.

(The alarms stop as Izzie wakes up)

Izzie: (rubbing her eyes) I just had the weirdest dream. (sits up)

Mateo: How… how weird?

(He heads for the window as Izzie got out of bed to do so as well, sirens heard in the distance. They then notice Cooper opening his window to look out as well. Curious, Mateo grabs his phone and sends Cooper a text message. He receives it, twitched his mouth in annoyance, closes the window, and goes back to bed. Izzie leans against the window while Mateo looked at his phone in sadness)

Izzie: Is Cooper still ignoring you?

Mateo: No. (turns away from the window and walks back to bed) He's just not talking to me. (Izzie yawns while raising her arms high. A few hours later, it was now daylight. Mateo's phone was going off, playing a K-Pop song, an image of a smiling Izzie, an alarm clock, and a sentence 'WAKE UP, HERMANITO!' on it, waking him up) Huh? (turns to grab his phone, only to fall out of bed, yelping. His phone lands on top of him and he looks at it as Izzie jumps out of bed) K-Pop? Izzie, stop messing with my phone!

Izzie: Got ya out of bed, didn't it? (runs out of the room while Mateo simply sighed. Mateo and Izzie, now dressed in their normal clothes, are in the kitchen, as their father, José, was cooking breakfast. Izzie was looking at her homework before heading over to her father) Dad, where's my sign-up sheet?

José: (swiftly signs it and hands it to her before noticing something else on another sheet as Izzie went back to her seat) Huh? (turns to the stairwell where Mateo was) Mateo, where's yours?

Mateo: Yeah, I don't understand the appeal of things thrown at you. That's not a sport, it's torture. (walks down the stairs)

Izzie: Sheep Week is more than just dodgeball.

Mateo: (sarcastically) Oh, right. There's tug-a-war, capture the flag, the--

Izzie: (jumps onto the counter) Sudden Death Tetherball!

José: Why don't you sign up with Cooper? (Izzie mumbles silently and he turned to see her moving her hand across her mouth to not make it worse) Right, uh… (walks over to put a hand on his son's shoulder) Well, you gotta think outside the box. This could be a chance to make new friends.

Izzie: (jumps down towards Mateo) Real friends!

(Mateo nervously chuckles and frowns before they head for the door, where Izzie grabbed her backpack from the coat rack and heads out as Mateo looks at his father briefly before heading for the door)

José: Yo! (Mateo stops and turns back to him holding up a book) Homework. (Mateo walks over to him as he opened it to look at it to see a drawing of Z-Blob on it) Mateo, what did I say about drawing your characters?

Mateo: You said, "No drawing on my tablet until homework is done."

José: (closes the book and holds it out to Mateo) Not what I had in mind.

Mateo: Gotta think outside the box, dad. (quickly grabs it and runs out of the house as José disappointingly put his hands on his hips while Mateo closed the door. He comes up to Izzie, who was waiting outside, before they start to run down the street, only to stop and look at the knocked over trash can from the night before. He moves closer, becoming curious, and kicks a can aside to reveal the broken hourglass. He picks it up to look at it as Izzie came up next to him) Hey, Izz, do you remember your dream last night?

Izzie: I do remember waking up and wanting pickles. Mmm, pickles.

Mrs. Castillo: Bacon breakfast burrito! (Mateo and Izzie turn in the direction Mrs. Castillo was heard. Latin music is heard as Izzie heads off while Mateo puts the hourglass in his backpack and moved to catch up with her. He quickly stops her before she could walk across a crossing as a blue car swiftly passes in front of them. They soon walk across to Mrs. Castillo's food truck van, where Señor Tortuga was hanging on the sill, and she hands a worker a burrito before he walked away, and Mateo and Izzie join the line behind another worker, who moves up to Mrs. Castillo, who hands him a burrito before walking away and Mrs. Castillo removes a hanging order slip. She walks away briefly as Izzie approached the van's side door before steam blows out from inside and Mrs. Castillo came over, wiping steam off her glasses) (speaks in Spanish) Buenos diaz, Izzie.

Izzie: Hola, Mrs. Castillo. May I have a mahi-mahi breakfast burrito? Oh, oh, and a cobra-style with extra pickles, por favor.

Mrs. Castillo: (chuckles as Izzie moves away for Mateo look at the side menu) And you, mijo?

Mateo: Can I get a kimchi breakfast burrito? No, wait! I love the huevos rancheros. But isn't that just an open burrito?

Izzie: (coming next to Mateo) Don't overthink it.

Mrs. Castillo: (holds up a spoon and spins it) Sometimes, the key is to look at things, upside-down. (tosses the spoon and catches it, upside-down)

(Mateo turns his head to try and look upside-down before noticing Zoey enter the van with a bag of groceries)

Zoey: Yo, Mrs. C. (Mateo smiles as she came next to Mrs. Castillo with the groceries) These are the freshest eggs possible.

Mrs. Castillo: Hm, how fresh?

Mateo: (yelps as he falls over, and Izzie, Zoey, and Mrs. Castillo turn to him see him lying on the ground, face down. He sighs and holds up his homework book) Number 37, please.

(Several minutes later, at Francis B. Wooley Middle School, the school bell rings as Mateo was in the hallway among other students as he reaches his locker and opens the door to a big pile of books that almost topples over, but he grabs onto it to try and keep it from falling and sighed out of relief, only for it to come down from the bottom and, along with other contents, spill all over the floor. He takes his backpack off and kneels down to try and get them all together. He goes to grab another drawn on sheet when Cooper and Logan approach him, and Logan grabs it to look at it)

Logan: (sarcastically while Cooper was next to him, looking smug) Aw, look, Matty has an imaginary friend on his Sheep Week team. (laughs, sarcastic again) Good luck finding yourself real teammates. (scrunches the form into a ball as Mateo stands up) You should call yourself "The Nobodies". (laughs) Right, Coop? (throws the scrunched up towards him)

Cooper: (catches it) Of course. (straightens it out to look at it) It's not a sign-up, it's just more Z-Blob comics.

Logan: (turns to Cooper) You really wanted this kid to come to Coney Island with us?

Cooper: (the bell rings again) I did. (the students behind him start heading to class) But all he wants to do is draw comics in his bedroom.

Mateo: (swipes it) At least I can create something and not just follow a jerk like Logan around.

Cooper: You finish that comic, yet?

Mateo: I'm very, very close. I have a lot of good ideas about the fight scenes.

Mr. Oz: (approaching them) Hey, hey, hey, what's going on out here?! Aren't you supposed to be in class?

(Cooper and Logan turn away)

Mateo: We're fine, Mr. Oz. We were just discussing Sheep Week teams.

Mr. Oz: Hm, curious. I didn't take you for much of an athlete, Mateo.

Logan: (laughs as he came up next to Mr. Oz) Sick burn, Mr. Oswald! (continues laughing and holds a hand up, expecting a high five, but he doesn't budge) No? (lowers his hand) Okay.

Mr. Oz: I wasn't burning anyone. Now, get. Go on. Expand your minds before it's too late. Let's go. Come on, get going. (puts his hands on his hips as Cooper and Logan start to walk away and Mateo watched them)

(Later that day, in Mateo and Izzie's bedroom, Mateo was at his desk, listening to music through his headphone while drawing on his tablet while Izzie was on her bed, making fighting poses while watching some anime on her tablet before picking it up to see a robot transform on it. She lowers it to look at Mateo, whose left hand was on his headphones, moving to the music through them and frowns. She then smirked before she starts throwing plushies at him, until the third one she threw hits his back, knocking his headphones off)

Mateo: (turns to her) Cut it out.

Izzie: (holds up Mr. Sharkyjaw) You really need to get out more. (tosses Mr. Sharkyjaw up before catching it and swung it to the side)

Mateo: Says the girl who's watching anime by herself. (spins the tablet pen in his hand while turning back to his tablet)

Izzie: (puts Mr. Sharkyjaw down while picking up her tablet to look at it) Because Nova said it was awesome. Dad was right when he said you're gonna lose all your friends, (falls down onto her bed) and die alone and sad in a cave if you don't try new things sometimes. (turns to her side to sit up and move to put her back to her pillows)

Mateo: Dad did not say that!

Izzie: (moves one hand behind her head and continues watching her tablet) Well, he should've.

(Briefly smiling, Mateo turned back to his tablet while putting his headphones back on to resume drawing. It is shown that he is drawing a picture of himself with a bandolier, belt, a cape, and Z-Blob on his shoulder, holding a sword up high. The sky turns from dusk to nightfall as Izzie, in her pyjamas, sleeps peacefully in her bed while Mateo, also in his pyjamas, looks at his tablet before putting it on the desk, but later puts it in his backpack, next to the broken hourglass, and zips it up. He heads over to his bed, lies down on it and closes his eyes. Suddenly, everything around Mateo changes, including his pyjamas which change into his clothes before he hears the sound of birds chirping and gets out of his bed and puts his backpack on to see he was now on a floating island, with his and Izzie's beds, his desk, some drawers, lamps and a carpet were around a field of grass with doors at every edge of the island and trees on floating rocks with their roots exposed, amazing him. As he looks, Izzie comes up next to him)

Mateo: Whoa!

Izzie: You can say that again.

Mateo: (yelps at seeing her next to him and moves back) Wha, wha--? What are you doing in my dream?

Izzie: (leans forward, hands on her hips) Your dream? (moves back, holding her arms out wide) This is clearly my dream. (moves a hand to her mouth in thought) Isn't it?

Mateo: Hey, I feel like I've had a dream there. (points to a floating island) And there. (points to another. Suddenly, he turns around as he turned his head to see his backpack moving)

Izzie: What?

Mateo: (yelps before taking his backpack off and throws it forward, where it lands and continued moving) Uh, either dad packed me a live squirrel for lunch, or there's something in there.

Izzie: Well, of course there is. It's a backpack, silly. (it moves again, amazing Izzie and frightening Mateo. Izzie heads over to it and unzips it to look inside) OMG, (Mateo comes up next to her to look inside and becomes surprised) we are totally sharing your dream!

(Inside the backpack was a small green slimy creature)

Mateo: Z-Blob? This is so cool! (moves his hand towards Z-Blob)

Izzie: Oh my god! (Mateo gets him out) I just want to squeeze him! (Mateo starts to pet him) Wait, why don't 'I' have a backpack? (grabs hold of Mateo) Mine would have rad things in it like--

Mateo: Izz, why is this happening? How's possible that we're sharing a dream like this? (pets Z-Blob a little)

Izzie: (moves behind Mateo and stops on the other side) I don't know. Ask him.

Mateo: (moves Z-Blob down) I can't.

Izzie: (moves back to the previous side) Dude, yes, you can! Look what you did. You literally made a new friend.

Mateo: (moves Z-Blob away from her) No! I mean, (lifts him high) in my comics he doesn't talk. I never drew him a mouth.

Izzie: (sarcastically) Well that seems like a missed opportunity. (Rattling is heard behind them, and they turn to see it was one of the doors, which shook about before they look around to see one door at a time was shaking, giving off a rattling noise, until one with purple mushrooms next to it opens up, revealing a glowing portal as Z-Blob turns to it) NO WAY! That is awesome!

Mateo: You think they go to those dream island things? (Izzie starts heading for it) But which--? (Izzie stops in front of the portal, places her hand in it and gets sucked through it) Oh, okay, you're gone. Cool. (walks towards it) Okay, it's just a door, in a dream. (stops in front of it) A big swirly thing that could lead to anything. (puts his hand through it, then moves it back to at it) Anything at all. (looks to see some glowing sand was coming down his hands in amazement and looks back at the portal. Z-Blob, who was on Mateo's shoulder, looks at him before jumping off, looks at the portal, turns to Mateo, then back at the portal before jumping to go through it. Mateo looks at the portal before crossing his eyebrows) No, Izz, I'm not gonna die alone in a cave! (dives into the portal and started to scream as he and Z-Blob fly through a glowing pathway before he managed to grab Z-Blob as they continue, passing many realms, including the Candy Realm while having his eyes closed until he opened them) Huh? (notices he is heading for a door at the end of the pathway and yelps. The door leads to an island with orange grass as it opened, and Mateo lands with a roll and face plants) Ow! (Z-Blob comes out and lands on his rear end as he starts to sit up and looks around to see Flower deers eating the grass, three pixies flying by, purple unicorns behind some floating rocks with trees and exposed roots, and three Dreamling Mushrooms, who stop to see the pixies fly by) Wow, I've never had a dream like this. (The pixies fly over to Izzie and they look at each other)

Izzie: (tries to jump and grab a pixie) Isn't it amazing?! (Mateo and Z-Blob turn to her before turning back)

Mateo: I'm still assessing that. (heads over to Izzie)

Izzie: (hand on chin in thought and looking at the pixies) So, if this is a dream… and I know it's a dream… (shudders in excitement) Do you think I can fly? (jumps and flaps her arms like wings, but doesn't move) Nope. starts to fall, yelling, but the pixies catch her) Oh, why thank you.

(They start to fly her around as Mateo watched, amazed. Z-Blob drops down to his hand as the pixies bring Izzie down and fly away as they watch them)

Mateo: Maybe we can't fly, (heads over to a floating rock and jumps, grabbing onto the edge while Z-Blob lands on top before Mateo climbs up it and looks down)’' but I've never felt this athletic before. (heads over to jump towards another floating rock as Z-Blob follows him and Izzie started to run along the row of floating rocks as Mateo jumps towards a third one, vaults over a tree root as Z-Blob lands behind him, gets on another tree root, jumps to a fourth floating rock, where he lands on a root and sighed as he came over the edge and jumps towards a fifth one with Z-Blob following him) Too bad Mr. Oz can't see. (sits down at the edge of it as Z-Blob lands next to him before seeing Izzie on her hands and feet, among other deers) Izz, what are you doing?

Izzie: (acting like a deer, eating grass before looking up) It's a dream. (stands up) I can be whatever I want to be. (drops down to act like a deer again) It tastes like… (eats some grass) cotton candy!

Mateo: (watches her briefly before looking at a floating rock with a tree and exposed roots ahead of him) Wow. (digs into his backpack to get out a pencil and paper, and started to draw the view on the paper)

Izzie: (looks up at him) Are you seriously drawing right now? (gets back on her hands and feet) Live in the moment, bro.

Mateo: I'm drawing the moment.

Izzie: Whatever.

(The flower deers soon look up and take off as Izzie watched them, laughing as she does so before she started to move like a deer)

Mateo: (still drawing until he hears rumbling thunder, making him stop) What is…? (looks ahead to see a purple fog in the sky) Okay, yeah. (stands up while dropping the paper) I think it's time to go! (jumps off the rock, landing next to Izzie) Uh, Izzie?

Izzie: What? Why? (looks at the cloud) Look how majestic!

(Dreamling mushrooms, flower deers, unicorns and pixies start heading in their direction)

Mateo: Uh, they're majestically headed this way! (pulls her back before they start to run for the door, but it started to float away and disappear into sand) Wait, we need that!

(The door fully disappears as the Dreamling mushrooms, flower deers, unicorns and pixies move around the two as they stop)

Izzie: Hey, Mateo. (turns him to point at one of the floating rocks) Mateo!

(A Grimspawn was climbing over a tree root as it laughed before taking flight as another appear in it's place before jumping off. A wave slowly moves along, changing slowly the sky to orange, followed by the rocks turning purple, the leaves on the floating trees disappearing, and, along with the roots, turn purple with pink veins all over. The orange grass also started to change into purple gravel as more flower deers and unicorns were running away from the wave)

Mateo: Izzie, run! (they turn around to start running from the wave)

Grimspawn 1: (laughs as it chases a flower deer) Get 'em! Come on!

Grimspawn 2: (spots Mateo and Izzie) Oh, over there! (points to them) Over there!

(They start to chase them as they keep running from the wave, which started to pass through them)

Grimspawn 1: I'm gonna get ya! Mateo and Izzie then jump over a small ledge and duck down to hide below it as the Grimspawn pass over them) I'm gonna get ya!

(They watch as they kept flying among the fleeing Dreamling mushrooms)

Izzie: What happened?

Mateo: I think they're turning this dream into a nightmare. (Z-Blob jumps off his shoulder)'’ Wait, buddy!

(He moves to go after him, only for a Grimkeeper to show up in front of them. The sight of it frightens them and Izzie. Someone was inside its cage-like torso. The Grimkeeper growls as it faces them)

Izzie: Um, nice monster? (The Grimkeeper roars at them before Mateo gets out a pencil as it started to raise its left foot) No! Bad monster! (Z-Blob shakes where he stood) Bad!

(The Grimkeeper prepares to squish Z-Blob)

Mateo: (yelps as he heads for him, sliding along) Watch out! (His pencil suddenly started to emit sand as it grows big before he lets it go and grabs Z-Blob, shrieking as he did so, and the Grimkeeper ends up stepping on the sharp end of the pencil, causing it to roar in pain and hop on its other foot as the pencil was still in its foot) RUN!

(The Grimkeeper pulls the pencil out and roared as it kept hopping while Mateo and Izzie run away)

Izzie: What did you just do?

Mateo: (stammers) Uh… I don't know. (looks back at the Grimkeeper) But it was awesome. (turns back as the Grimkeeper started chasing them)

Izzie: Can you do it again? (They drop down to slide underneath a low floating rock and get back up to resume running as the Grimkeeper swats it aside)

Mateo: I don't know how. (They keep running, until they came to a sudden halt when they see some Grimspawn in front of them) I don't think I like this dream anymore!

Izzie: How do we wake up?

(Susan and some Grimspawn immediately charge at them as the Grimkeeper prepares to grab them. Suddenly, K-Pop music is heard in the background)

Mateo: Is that my phone? (suddenly disappeared into sand, along with Izzie and Z-Blob, the music stopping instantly)

(Susan was now on top of Grimkeeper, whom moved its hand back as Susan flies back and Snivel came over before she slaps him)

Snivel: Knock it off!

Sneak: (approaching them) You let 'em go!

Snivel: You do this every time!

Sneak: Oh, me?

Susan: You guys always--

Sneak: It's all your fault!

(They keep arguing, until they hear the Night Hunter approaching and move aside as he approached the Grimkeeper, all forming into a single line)

Snivel: (looking up at the Night Hunter) His Darkness won't be pleased. You let a couple get away on us.

Night Hunter: Oh, I think they'll be coming back. (looks up at the Grimkeeper as its prisoner placed their hands on the bars, revealing to be Cooper, who helplessly frowned)

(Mateo wakes up in the Waking World to the still blaring alarm on his phone, held by Izzie, who stands on his bed)

Mateo: I TAKE IT ALL BACK! I LOVE K-POP! (he smiles before Izzie throws his phone to him and he catches it)

Izzie/Mateo: (in unison) Best/Worst dream ever!

Mateo: (confused at Izzie's opinion) What?

Izzie: (jumps off the bed) Oh, come on. How cool was it that we got to share a dream? How many people can say that?

Mateo: (looks at his phone) Yeah, it was pretty sweet. (turns his alarm off)

Izzie: Bathroom dibs! (runs out while Mateo groans in annoyance and lays his head back onto his pillow, shutting his eyes)

(At school, the bell rings. Mateo and his classmates sit in Mr. Oz's classroom)

Mr. Oz: (taking attendance) Alright. Okay, everybody. Logan.

Logan: (waves from his desk) Whassup?

Mr. Oz: Keith.

Keith: (offscreen) Here.

Mr. Oz: Cooper. Cooper?

Mateo: (drawing the Grimkeeper from his and Izzie's dream. When he realizes Cooper is absent, he glances back at his empty desk in concern)

Mr. Oz: (mutters) Okay, absent it is. (resumes calling out names) Nate.

Nate: (offscreen) Here.

Mr. Oz: Tommy.

Tommy: (offscreen) Here.

Mr. Oz: Shelly.

Shelly: (offscreen) Here.

Mateo: (staring at Cooper's empty desk as Mr. Oz does attendance, before looking at his Grimkeeper drawing in realization. Suddenly, a sound like stomach grumbling comes from him, causing his classmates to laugh. He awkwardly laughs along with them)

Mr. Oz: Mateo.

Mateo: Um... (the sound continues, and the students continue to laugh. He notices his backpack rustling and leans down to unzip it, revealing that Z-Blob, the source of the noise, has come into the Waking World) (whispers) No way.

Mr. Oz: Mateo.

Mateo: I mean, yeah. (pats Z-Blob deeper into his backpack) Yes. Here. (smiles and awkwardly folds his arms over his sketchbook)

Mr. Oz: (looks at him skeptically) Everything alright over there?

Mateo: Oh, yeah, that's just my s...stomach.

Logan: Not up to the kimchi burritos, bro? (laughs)

Mateo: (raises his hand and stands up quickly, gathering his belongings) Mr. Oz, can I have the bathroom pass? (backs towards the door)

Mr. Oz: Yeah, of course.

(Mateo quickly runs out of the room as the other students laugh. In another hallway, Izzie walks with Nova and another friend)

Izzie: This burrito was so good, it was so cheesy- AH! (Mateo suddenly yanks her through a door)

(Mateo drags Izzie into the library and past the Librarian, who glances around after they've passed)

Izzie: How many times do I have to tell you I'm not reading Lord of the Rings?

Mateo: What? No, not that. But again, you're really missing out.

(Izzie crosses her arms)

Mateo: The dream! What if it was real? What if we made it come true?

Izzie: Okay, look, that was crazy. I'll give you that. But it was a dream, broseph.

Mateo: But what if it wasn't?

Izzie: But what if it was? See? We could do this all day. What are you getting at?

Mateo: You have to promise you won't tell anyone what I'm gonna show you. (begins to slide off his backpack)

Izzie: (groans, begins to walk away) I'm supposed to be in P.E. right now. I don't have time for this!

Mateo: (grabs her shoulder and turns her around to face him) Just promise!

Izzie: Oh, okay, okay, sheesh.

(Mateo unzips his backpack and shows her the inside. The librarian and some students checking out books look over, confused by her squeal)

Mateo: Shhh!

(Mateo and Izzie smile unsuspicously at Zoey, who had stopped to stare at them as she pushed a cart of books)

Mateo: 'Sup?

(Zoey squints and continues to stare as she rolls the cart away)

Izzie: Shut the front door! (gasps as she grabs Z-Blob from the backpack) I just want to cuddle him so hard. (presses her face against him briefly) Look at this guy!

Mateo: (he takes Z-Blob) We can't let anybody see him. Especially not a teacher.

Izzie: (takes Z-Blob again) Yeah, we don't want him taken to some secret evil government lab for tests. (she holds Z-Blob close, looking worried) No sirree. (mimics an electric zapping noise) But how is this even possible? I mean, seriously, how? (she holds Z-Blob up to Mateo's face)

Mateo: I don't know. But it means anything is possible, right? The doors, the islands, that thing I did with my pencil. (pulls out his pencil) All of it. And I feel like Z-Blob is trying to tell me but, I can't quite understand. (he watches Z-Blob bounce in Izzie's hands) I really should have drawn him a mouth.

(Z-Blob flips around in Izzie's hands)

Izzie: Oh! I think he's trying to tell you he's hungry.

(Mateo sets his lunchbox down as he and Izzie sit at their cafeteria table for lunch)

Izzie: What does a Z-Blob eat?

Mateo: (opening his lunchbox) He eats purple moon rocks from Planet Narbula.

Izzie: Without a mouth?

Mateo: What do I know? (Z-Blob peeks out of the backpack in his lap, eyeing the lunch) Let's see.

(Izzie offers Z-Blob a slice of pizza, which he snatches, ducking back into Mateo's backpack quickly to eat it. He burps loudly and spits out the pepperoni, catching Jayden's attention at another table)

Izzie: (she and Mateo glance at each other) Maybe he's vegetarian.

Zoey: (clears her throat at a nearby table and they look over) Everything cool over there?

Izzie: Dang girl, you really get around.

(Mateo waves shyly to Zoey, then quickly snatches up Z-Blob as he attempts to steal jelly off the table. He awkwardly covers up his backpack and pretends to be eating the jelly)

Mateo: Izz, if Z-Blob is real, do you think other stuff in our dream could be real too?

Izzie: I hope so! I love fairies.

Mateo: No, no, I saw Cooper in the belly of that monster. And then he wasn't in class today.

Izzie: Wait, you mean, like he's really stuck in the belly of some giant walking cage beast?

Mateo: Is that so hard to believe?

Izzie: (she thinks about it) I mean, yes, but...

Mr. Oz: (approaches their table and touches Mateo's shoulder) Mateo, feeling any better?

Mateo: (looks up at him) Uh, yeah. Yes, just hunger pains. You know, growing boy. Thank you for your concern.

Mr. Oz: Good, good, that's good. But it dawned on me when you ran out of class that you might be trying to keep somethin' from me.

Mateo: What?! No, I mean...

Mr. Oz: Homework, Mateo. You ran out without turning in your homework.

(Z-Blob throws Mateo's homework out of his backpack, covered in slime)

Mr. Oz (holds up the slimey papers) And now I see why.

Izzie: (grins awkwardly) Oh, did you sneeze in your backpack again, silly? (she winks at Mateo twice)

Mr. Oz: Not a lot of answers here. (waves the papers) You have so much potential, Mateo. But, you're gonna need to come see me after class this afternoon.

(The bell rings)

Mateo: Sorry, Mr. Oz. Gotta go. (gathers his things and leaves the table quickly, then returns to pull Izzie away with him)

Izzie: (looks at Mr. Oz as she's pulled away) Cool beard.

Mr. Oz: (calling after them) Hey, don't forget about our little rendezvous after school.

(Mateo continues walking away, holding Izzie by the wrist, then bumps into Jayden, spilling his lunch tray)

Mateo: (sets Jayden's jelly back on the tray) Bon appétit. (he and Izzie leave)

(In the classroom, Mateo waits at Mr. Oz's desk, looking at his Albert bobblehead)

Mr. Oz: (enters the classroom) Oh, well, sorry! Sorry I'm late. (mutters) Okay. (sighs) Now, let's to the bottom of what's goin' on with you. (takes out a jelly and sets it on his desk) So, Mateo, what kind of big dreams do you have?

(Z-Blob rustles Mateo's backpack, and he kicks it)

Mateo: Oh, me? No- I don't want to bore you with my dreams.

Mr. Oz: Ha! Something tells me your dreams are anything but boring. (he picks up a paper) You know, I used to have big dreams myself.

(Mr. Oz gestures at the model planets at the ceiling, and they both look up)

Mateo: To be a science teacher?

Mr. Oz: (chuckles) People can be more than meets the eye, smart aleck. (slides Mateo's doodled on homework towards him on the desk) You seem to have quite the imagination.

Mateo: (chuckles) Oh, that's nothing. (rubs the back of his head)

Mr. Oz: (reaches for a desk drawer) Mateo, imagination is a powerful thing. Now, don't take my word for it.

(Z-Blob hops out of Mateo's backpack and steals Mr. Oz's jelly, then jumps back into the backpack before Mateo can catch him)

Mr. Oz: (rises back from behind his desk with a spoon, but sees his jelly is missing) (sighs) Oh?

Mateo: (chuckles nervously and shrugs)

(Z-Blob burps loudly in the backpack)

Mateo: (winces and pretends to sneeze) Ah-choo! Yep, there's that sneeze again! Ohh-kay, gotta- (leans down to grab his bag) I just remembered I gotta go walk my s...ister home.

Mr. Oz: Yeah, yeah, of course. But before you go, I have a favour to ask. I need you to run some homework assignments over to your pal, Cooper. Ah, he's home sick today. Sounds like he might miss a few days. (he passes Cooper's homework to Mateo) Look, if you ever need to talk, I'm... I'm always here to help.

Mateo: (starts to leave but pauses in the doorway) I'm not the one who needs help, Mr. Oswald.

(As Mateo leaves, Mr. Oz looks on thoughtfully. Later, Mateo runs around the corner onto his street, noticing Cooper's mother talking to José in front of Cooper's house)

Cooper's mom: I just- I feel so helpless. He's never been sick like this before.

José: Just keep an eye on him.

(Izzie catches up on her scooter and Mateo waves her to follow him. They sneak behind Cooper's mom and their dad)

José: Lemme know if anything changes, and I'm gonna be back after my shift.

(Mateo and Izzie enter the building behind the two adults and make their way to Cooper's room, where he's laying in bed, asleep)

Izzie: He doesn't look so good.

Logan: (walking up behind them) Maybe we should get him some soup or somethin'. Y'know, I got the best recipe-

Mateo: (startled and annoyed) What are you doing here?

Izzie: Uh, he needs more than soup.

Logan: Uh, you give someone soup when they're sick. It's what friends do.

Mateo: You have no idea what he needs. He was my friend, too, until you came along and jerkified him.

Logan: That's not even a word!

Izzie: Guys! (grabs Mateo's shoulder and points at Cooper) Look at his colour.

(They watch as Cooper's skin rapidly pales)

Mateo: It's like he's fading.

Logan: (leans towards Cooper) What's wrong with him?

Mateo: Izz, we gotta go back. We gotta save Cooper.

(Cooper's pale, sleeping face fades to his concerned face in the Dream World, where he's still trapped in the Grimkeeper. The Grimkeeper growls, stomping through the corrupted realm with Cooper stuck inside)
